Underground Storage Tank Operator Courses for Alabama

Alabama UST Operator Training Course Descriptions

We designed our Alabama Underground Storage Tank (UST) Operator Training Courses to ensure certification, regulatory compliance, and protection of the environment. Also, our courses are online, on-demand. Additionally, they are video-based instructional courses, designed to make UST operators are not only certified, but understand their responsibilities. At TAIT, we have significant experience with USTs. For example, we started design and installation of USTs in the 1960’s and we are a UST contractor in many states. Because we have so much experience, we decided to start training underground storage tank operators almost 20 years ago, primarily to help our clients with environmental compliance.

Overview of the Alabama UST Operator Training Requirements

Alabama underground storage tank facilities are regulated by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.  The Alabama rules UST and AST regulations are found in ADEM Administrative Code R. 335-6-15.  Alabama regulations requires the owner or operator of each UST facility to train at least one employee in each of the following classifications:

The Alabama Class A UST operator is typically the owner or manager of a UST facility who has general knowledge of regulations governing USTs. The Alabama Class A UST operator responsibilities include general knowledge of UST system requirements so the operator can make informed decisions regarding compliance and ensure responsible persons are performing duties to operate and maintain the UST system. Alabama Class A UST operators may be required to be retrained by the ADEM if the UST facility is found significantly out of compliance.

Alabama Class B UST Operator

The Alabama Class B UST operator has responsibility for implementing the including release detection, release prevention, maintenance, operation, reporting, and record keeping at the Alabama UST facility. The Class B operator requires a more in-depth understanding of operation and maintenance aspects of the UST facility. The Class B operator has responsibility for training the Alabama Class C UST operators. Alabama Class B UST operators may be required to be retrained by the ADEM if the UST facility is found significantly out of compliance.

Alabama Class C UST Operator

At a typical convenience store, the Alabama Class C UST operator is the clerk or attendant at the gas station.  At an industrial facility, the New Mexico Class C UST operator is a facility employee that works in the vicinity of the USTs.  The Alabama Class C UST operator must understand how to recognize alarms or emergency conditions, how to respond to alarms or spills, and how to call the Class A or Class B UST operators and appropriate responders in case of an emergency or fuel spill. Class C UST Operators must be trained and certified each time they are designated for a particular UST or AST system.
