We often receive questions about the UST AB Operator Training regulations, while people are preparing to take our courses. Here are some questions that I recently answered regarding Ohio. Perhaps you are looking for this information also, and may find it helpful.
The Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulations (BUSTR) created a great list of Operator Training – Frequently Asked Questions online that you can review, also.
Please contact us with any other questions, and we will be happy to help answer them for you and enroll you in the Ohio UST AB Operator Training course so that you may receive your certification as an A or B Operator (or both) in Ohio.
Questions and Answers:
1- Can all certifications for class A/B operators be completed online?
Yes – The overall objective is to educate the prospective Class A or B operator on the State of Ohio and USEPA Federal Regulations governing the operation of underground storage tanks. The training is specific to the state’s regulations and will consist of several lessons throughout the day. At the end of the training with successful completion of the 20 question evaluation, students will receive their Certificate of Completion.
2- Can all certifications for class C operators be completed online?
Yes – but the state has their own form, take a look at http://www.com.ohio.gov/fire/docs/fire_OpTrainClassCApp.pdf This has to be completed for each Class C Operator. The B Operator would have to go over this with them, as well as the online course at http://www.pstinstruction.com/collections/all/products/ohio-class-c-operator
3- What are re-certification requirements? Costs?
Here is the link to the administrative code: http://codes.ohio.gov/oac/1301%3A7-9-19 and here is the wording regarding retraining: (6) The Class B operator of an UST site shall undergo retraining if an operating UST at the site is found to have a violation leading to the issuance of a red tag pursuant to rule 1301:7-9-18 of the Administrative Code. (a) Retraining by the Class B operator shall occur within sixty days of the issuance of the red tag and shall cover topics addressed in paragraph (C)(3)(b) of this rule.
Our costs for the course would be the same, as it is the same course and certification.
4- Is the TAIT online certifications acceptable to the Ohio State Fire Marshall and meet all criteria for certified Class A/B/C operators?
Yes, our training and certification course has been approved by the Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulations (BUSTR), Division of State Fire Marshall, State of Ohio Department of Commerce, for becoming certified as a Class A and Class B UST Operator in Ohio..
